  2. It has deep pockets for your essentials

  4. Need a maternity abaya? THE abaya you need that will accommodate your growing bump.

  5. Did I already mention it has functional pockets? We are so excited about pockets on both side! Yay!

  6. Made from the finest Nida fabric.

In 2021, I launched MODESTLY with the same cliched aims of bringing simple modest attire to both ladies (and men, In' Sha'Allah). It quickly dawned on me that I was no different brand; I struggled to convey the unique elements that persuades customers to shop with MODESTLY.

My focus shifted when I found it difficult to source suppliers selling abayas that would look loose on a plus size women that I could model. As a new startup in 2021, I didn't have the funds to hire a model, nor could I model the abayas myself because they were too revealing due to being fitted like a dress. I then tried to find several manufacturers who would make custom abayas for me, but they all turned me down, claiming that my size measurements were unrealistic. However, they were unable to grasp my vision.

I understand that the size measurements I requested are exorbitant, but they do not recognize that I wanted to create an abaya that satisfies the Islamic requirement of cloaking the body shape. I wanted the abaya to be loose on a curvaceous woman, much like the abaya is loose on a slim woman. I eventually found a seamstress who understood my vision, and we went on a mission to create the abaya that I envisioned. It took a whole year since I started my journey to create plus size abayas.

Our purpose is now to primarily develop a collection of modest clothing for curvaceous women who want to dress modestly and encourage them to wear it with confidence knowing that the apparel will not display the shape of their body.

Still not convinced that the Curve Abaya is THE abaya for you?

A little relatable backstory:

Over the years I struggled to find abayas that would look modest on my plus size figure. On many occasions I found various abayas that looked amazing on a person with a smaller frame than mine. But when it came to put the abaya on myself, the modest loose aspect became slightly less modest.

The struggle is real

I could never find the perfect abaya that fit me right, not only was I a plus size but I was also taller than an average woman (5ft9). The struggle became an obstacle in my journey of wearing modest wear and at times I became discouraged to wear an abaya. I just gave up on finding an abaya that met my requirements, because abayas that I need are not readily available from any physical or online shops and the only option I found that somewhat fit my size was the loose butterfly abaya that made me look bigger than what I am.

There came a time, where I was shopping with my mother to source fabrics for her pakistani suits and I came across a plum colour fabric that I really liked. So I asked my mother (who had some knowledge of sewing simple Pakistani suits) to sew me a custom made abaya from that fabric.

Having custom made abayas, through trial and error made me realised the key specification that every abaya wearer needs. I'm already curvy, so I do not need an abaya to make me look more wider - I am sure other plus size women would relate to this. Thus, I created an abaya that would look loose but not bulky on a plus size woman.

  1. Pockets - abaya has become my to go outfit so I carry all my essentials such as keys and mobile phone to place inside the deep pockets of my abayas.

  2. Long Zip at the front - no one wants a tight neck line and struggle to fit your head through the opening of the neck. So with front zip, it’s easy to put on and to take it off.

  3. Popper buttons - if you come across wide sleeve or bell sleeve arms on a abaya, you might find that the sleeves rolls back when you raise your arms. So, with popper buttons within the inner sleeve, the sleeve does not fall back no matter the direction your arms move. (We will be releasing closed cuff sleeves abayas soon!)

So if you had the same struggle as mine, then rest assured that this abaya will meet your needs. The abaya comes with a removable waist belt, you can tighten the abaya should you wish.
